Terry Cavaretta Trapeze Experience, Hotel Fear, Taken 2

I’m amazed at the coolest things I get to do every day here in Las Vegas.  How did I get so lucky?  Today 2 of my friends from the show and I went to Terry Cavaretta’s Trapeze Experience in North Las Vegas.  Terry Cavaretta is a world famous trapeze artist (read all about her here) and she had been doing the headlining trapeze act at Circus Circus for 20 years.  I can’t help but think I saw her when my family came to stay at Circus Circus just about 20 years ago.  Haha.  But it’s those funny little moments that inspired me when I was so little to follow those crazy dreams of mine.  My mom always said I was on the edge of my seat watching Ringling Bros and other awesome shows.  And here I am, 20 years later, in Terry’s backyard on the trapeze in Las Vegas.  Like….what?!

It was an awesome day and I am definitely going back to the advanced class.  We basically had a private lesson for the 3 of us!

Me and Terry Cavaretta and fellow instructor Kelly on the trapeze landing!

Ta da!  Me and Annelise! The Flying Showgirls Act coming soon!

Watching Annelise fly!  The view was absolutely gorgeous from the top of the trapeze.  The sky was cloudy over the mountains which made the sky bright red and purple mountains.  Absolutely breathtaking seeing the view and then leaping from the platform!! 😉

Not my photo…but this is what it looked like!

Jubilee gals, Terry, and her husband Réjean St. Jules in pink, who was also in Jubilee! as a specialty juggling act.  Such a small world!

It was definitely difficult to get back into after not having taken a class for 8 months or so.  I think I definitely will be sore tomorrow at work!!

And another thing, as we were leaving two of the trapeze artists from Mystere walked in to chat, or play on the rig, or something.  But I was like this is so cool!!!! 😉

After trapeze we all went to meet up with the thrill seekers of Jubilee! to go to the second part of the crazy halloween mazes called HOTEL FEAR!  The Asylum was definitely scarier than today’s Hotel Fear, just sayin.  I’m such a pro now.  I think we will be checking out Eli Roth’s Goretorium in a couple of weeks.  Kindof excited.

After Hotel Fear I met up with some other gals following a failed attempt to get to First Friday downtown.  I am not going to try doing that again.  Parking is a nightmare!  Got some gyro’s at Freemont St.  Went to Town Square and saw Taken 2 at the theater.  It was a fright night for sure!!

Tomorrow my wonderful boss from Dance Threadz is coming to see Jubilee! with my wonderful high school arts director!!! 😀  Can’t wait!! She was my first guest ever 6 months ago and nows she’s back for more!  woohoo!

Trapeze-ing It Up

For lack of an outfit post, here is the video of my 2nd Trapeze class.  My boyfriend shot and edited the video on his super fancy expensive Director of Photography camera.  Thanks, honey!  Learned some cool tricks and catches.  But the best part are the crazy people dancing on the pier.  Can’t beat it.  🙂  I love LA.

Trapeze School New York – 3rd Class

Last week Leanna and I took our 3rd Trapeze class on the Santa Monica pier at Trapeze School New York.  I can safely say I am addicted.  This was our last pre paid class so I’m JONESING to get back.  It is so much fun and not difficult if you’re a good mover.  Doesn’t take brute strength like aerial tissu or hoop.  The above photo is the set split trick, my personal favorite that I wanted to learn so badly!  Yay!  We wore matching geeky Christmas socks cuz we are so awesome.  Hellllooooo.

My mom and sister came to watch our class which was really cool.  What a great way to end 2011.  All I can say is I hope 2012 is filled with more trapeze!!!

Here are a bunch of videos from the day:

And if you’re a trapeze enthusiast, here is a link to all my trapeze vids in order of progress. Here!!

My First Time on the Flying Trapeze!

This weekend was so amazing!  Leanna and I got a Groupon deal to the Trapeze School New York on the Santa Monica pier for a high flying trapeze lesson.  We were a little nervous, Leanna had done trapeze before, but this was my first time ever!  The rig looked so huge and I was afraid of falling on my head.  We received a brief instruction on how to stand once you’re on the platform, they say ready, you bend your knees, and they say “HEP” and you jump off!  No looking back!

The feeling was exhilarating to be flying high and free, looking out at the blue ocean and pretty mountains.  I loved every minute!  Now I can look at the trapeze and think “Check!  Conquered!”  Hehehe  Even though there are SO many tricks to learn, I want to do them all!  It was MUCH easier than aerial hoop.  Hoop is pure muscle while trapeze is agility and timing.  It’s fast too, which I love.  It’s exciting.

Once we got our basic knee hangs down, it was time to do a catch.  This means there is someone on another trapeze swing who catches the other trapeze flyer.  Four people in our class tried, and failed.  They all didn’t get the timing down right and fell into the net or had to dismount.  It was my turn, and by this time a crowd had gathered on the pier and people were watching our class.  Everyone was saying “Cmon Natalie, show em how its done!”  No pressure, right?  So I jumped, legs up, hands off, and made the catch!  It was the coolest feeling ever and I am definitely addicted!  Everyone on the pier cheered once I made the catch!  It was rad.

Leanna did super good too!  We are going back to take more classes in the next few weeks.  If anyone wants to join us, please do!  It is so much fun, and the more the merrier.  Our instructors were super nice and made us feel comfortable and safe.  We can’t wait to go back!!!!
